Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News — Authorities have arrested two men and uncovered a clandestine heroin-processing laboratory during a series of police raids in Bukit Mertajam and Kulim, in the northern states of Penang and Kedah.
The operation, led by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, took place from the late afternoon of 21 November into the early hours of 22 November, based on intelligence reports.
Major Seizures
During the first raid in Bukit Mertajam, police discovered a fully operational drug-processing laboratory. A man, believed to be the chemist for the syndicate, was detained. The authorities seized:
- 5,385 grams of raw heroin
- 400 grams of heroin base
- 20 kilograms of caffeine powder
- Various chemical liquids and specialized equipment used in drug production
Following the initial arrest, police conducted a raid in Kulim, Kedah, detaining a second suspect, believed to act as the syndicate’s runner. During this raid, they also recovered 250 grams of methamphetamine.
Suspects and Investigation
Both suspects, aged 40, tested positive for multiple controlled substances, including morphine, amphetamine, and methamphetamine. Investigations indicate that the syndicate may have been operating since August 2025, focusing on heroin distribution in northern Malaysia.
The quantity of heroin seized could supply up to 40,000 addicts. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs and assets, including a motorcycle, is around RM 120,600.
The suspects are currently remanded until 28 November 2025 to assist in further investigations. They face charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties including life imprisonment or the death penalty, along with caning.
