Malaysian Car Sales Surge in October 2025, Driven by EV Demand

Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has reported a notable increase in car sales for October 2025, with total industry volume (TIV) reaching 75,992 units, up approximately 30% from September’s 58,490 units. This marks a modest rise compared to October 2024, when around 71,022 vehicles were sold. Passenger vehicles accounted for the majority of sales at 70,321 units, while commercial vehicles made up 5,671 units.

Industry analysts attribute the surge largely to heightened interest in electric vehicles (EVs), particularly fully imported battery electric vehicles (CBU BEVs). Buyers rushed to take advantage of ongoing tax exemptions and incentives before the expected end of these benefits in December 2025. In addition, year-end promotional campaigns from automakers and dealers further fueled consumer demand.

Despite the strong October performance, cumulative sales from January to October 2025 show a slight decline compared to the same period in 2024. Production figures also lagged behind, with only 65,226 units assembled in October, highlighting challenges in supply chains and manufacturing capacities.

Looking ahead, MAA expects the momentum to continue into November as the market responds to both EV incentives and seasonal promotions. The October data underscores the growing influence of government policies and promotional strategies on Malaysian consumer behavior in the automotive sector.
