Malaysia Aggressively Seeks Nordic Tourists, VMY2026 Brought to Helsinki

HELSINKI, El Sky News – In an aggressive effort to expand its international tourism market reach ahead of the mega target of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), the Malaysian Embassy in Helsinki, Finland, has launched a special promotional campaign to attract tourists from the Nordic countries.

The attractively themed campaign, “Malaysia Truly Asia – Your Next Tropical Escape,” is a strategic move to highlight Malaysia as a sustainable tropical destination offering diverse, unique, and unforgettable travel experiences.

Attracting ‘High-Taste’ Tourists

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Malaysian Embassy in Helsinki, Encik Al-Fadil Adam, emphasized in his opening speech that Finland is an important and rapidly growing market for Malaysia’s tourism sector.

“Finnish tourists are known as travelers with high taste and deep curiosity, often seeking authentic experiences, a focus on nature, wellness, and relaxed adventure,” he stated.

The campaign specifically targets these criteria by showcasing Malaysia’s competitive advantages, which lie not only in its equatorial climate and pristine tropical rainforests but also its vibrant modern cities, UNESCO World Heritage sites, cultural diversity, and world-class gastronomy.

Wira and Manja Symbolize Environmental Sustainability

The VMY2026 launch ceremony in Helsinki also introduced the campaign’s new official mascots, Wira and Manja. This pair of Sun Bear mascots symbolizes Malaysia’s rich natural heritage (biodiversity), which is highly valued by tourists from the European continent.

The organizing of this campaign is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and tourism ties between Malaysia and Finland, thereby attracting more Finnish citizens to come and personally experience the warmth and hospitality offered by Malaysia.

The VMY2026 campaign targets an arrival of between 40 and 47 million international tourists with an anticipated lucrative revenue in the range of RM147.1 billion to RM329 billion. The Malaysian Embassy plans to continue a series of promotions, including roadshows and cultural events across Finland throughout the next year, to increase awareness of this national campaign.
