KOTA KINABALU, El Sky News – Police have successfully arrested a local man to assist investigations regarding a recent incident that caused a stir on social media, involving alleged injury using a weapon and abuse against a group of madrasah students.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, ACP Kasim Muda, in an official statement today, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is in his late 30s.
According to ACP Kasim, the incident was reported to have occurred on December 14, at approximately 11:55 PM, at a business premise located in the Kota Kinabalu area. The incident involved the arrested adult suspect and a group of students reportedly from a local madrasah.
“We have arrested the suspect to enable a thorough investigation to be conducted regarding the viral video footage depicting the incident,” he said. “This case is being investigated under two main legal provisions.”
The case is currently being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, for voluntarily causing hurt by means of a weapon or dangerous object, and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for the offence of ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of a child that can cause physical or emotional injury.
The police advised the public not to disseminate unverified information or make any wild speculations regarding the motive and details of the incident.
“We urge all parties to respect the ongoing legal process as well as the privacy of the individuals involved in this case,” ACP Kasim added.
Members of the public who have any relevant information regarding this incident are requested to come forward to the nearest police station immediately to help complete the investigation.
