Banting Community on Alert: Police Launch Manhunt Following Fatal Shooting at Local Eatery

KUALA LANGAT, MALAYSIA, El Sky News – On this Monday, January 5, 2026, authorities in the Kuala Langat district have intensified their efforts to locate a suspect following a tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a local man on Sunday night. The event occurred at a popular fast-food restaurant in Banting, sending ripples through the quiet township and prompting a swift response from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The Incident and Emergency Response The incident reportedly took place late on the evening of January 4. Emergency services were alerted at approximately 10:00 PM after witnesses reported hearing a discharge of a firearm near the exterior of the premises. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a local man slumped against the wall of the restaurant with multiple injuries.

Forensic teams spent the early hours of Monday morning cordoning off the area. During the investigation, at least two spent bullet casings were recovered from the floor, which are now being analyzed as critical evidence in the case.

Ongoing Manhunt for the Suspect Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of a lone male suspect. Witnesses described a man fleeing the scene on a motorcycle immediately after the incident.

  • Police Coordination: Senior officers from the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were on-site to oversee the investigation and deploy specialized units to track the suspect’s potential escape routes.
  • Legal Framework: The case is being handled with the utmost professional rigor under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the charge of murder.

A Professional Call for Public Cooperation While incidents involving firearms are statistically rare in Malaysia due to the nation’s stringent licensing and control laws, the authorities are treating this as a high-priority matter. Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumors on social media that could interfere with the investigation.

“Our priority is ensuring the safety of the Banting community and bringing clarity to this situation,” a police spokesperson remarked. “We encourage anyone who may have witnessed the event or captured dashcam footage in the vicinity of the restaurant between 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM to come forward.”

Community Support Local community leaders have expressed their condolences to the victim’s family, emphasizing a message of unity. The restaurant remains temporarily closed to assist in the forensic process, and a heavy police presence is expected to remain in the area to provide reassurance to residents.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident is urged to contact the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters (IPD) or the nearest police station immediately.
