Google Launches Affordable ‘Google One Lite’ Plan in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – Google has introduced a new entry-level subscription tier for its cloud storage service in Malaysia, known as Google One Lite. The plan is designed specifically for users who require a modest amount of extra storage beyond the standard free allocation.

The Google One Lite plan offers 30GB of cloud storage, effectively doubling the 15GB of free space provided to every standard Google account. This storage can be shared across Google Drive, Google Photos, and Gmail.

Pricing and Accessibility

The Lite plan is positioned as a more budget-friendly alternative to the existing “Basic” plan (which offers 100GB). In Malaysia, the pricing for Google One Lite is set at:

• RM35.00 per year

By offering a yearly subscription, users can save a small amount compared to the monthly billing cycle. Additionally, Google is reportedly offering promotional rates for the first few months of subscription or the first year for new sign-ups, depending on current marketing campaigns.

Bridging the Gap

This move is seen as a strategic effort to bridge the gap between casual users and power users. While the 15GB free tier often fills up quickly due to high-resolution photos and large email attachments, not everyone requires the full 100GB or 200GB offered in higher tiers.

The 30GB Lite option provides a low-cost solution for those who simply need a bit of “breathing room” to keep their digital lives organized without committing to a more expensive monthly bill.
