indonesia to Proceed with Plan to Buy 50 Boeing Jets under US Trade Deal

Kuala Lumpur — Indonesia is moving ahead with its plan to purchase 50 aircraft from American manufacturer Boeing as part of the reciprocal trade agreement recently finalised between the United States and Indonesia, government officials say.

Rosan Roeslani — Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Industrialization, head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and CEO of state-owned sovereign wealth fund Danantara — confirmed that the deal includes a commitment to acquire 50 Boeing jets. He said initial communications with Boeing are underway and the process will continue in further negotiations.

The planned Boeing purchase comes alongside other trade cooperation arrangements under the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) signed by Indonesian and U.S. officials, which also involve energy imports and expanded commercial ties.

While specifics such as total contract value, aircraft models, delivery timeline and financing details have yet to be finalised, Indonesia’s move signals a strengthening of economic cooperation with the United States and a strategic expansion of the country’s aviation capacity.
