BYD Unveils Blade Battery 2.0 With Ultra-Fast Charging – 10% to 70% in 5 Minutes, 10% to 97% in 9 Minutes

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has officially unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery, known as Blade Battery 2.0, introducing significant improvements in charging speed, energy density, and overall performance for electric vehicles. The announcement marks the company’s latest effort to strengthen its position as one of the global leaders in EV technology and battery development.

The upgraded battery system features ultra-fast charging capabilities, enabling compatible electric vehicles to recharge from 10% to 70% in approximately five minutes and from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes under optimal conditions. This charging speed represents a major advancement compared with most existing EV battery technologies, which typically require significantly longer charging times.

According to the company, the second-generation Blade Battery also delivers around five percent higher energy density than its predecessor while maintaining the strong safety standards that the Blade battery series is known for. The improved design aims to enhance both driving range and battery durability, allowing EV manufacturers to develop vehicles capable of travelling longer distances without compromising safety.

The battery is designed to work with BYD’s newly introduced Flash Charging technology, which enables extremely high-power charging speeds through specia

Another key highlight of the Blade Battery 2.0 is its ability to maintain rapid charging performance even in extreme cold temperatures. Tests showed that the battery could charge from 20% to 97% in around 12 minutes at temperatures as low as –20°C to –30°C, only slightly slower than charging under normal conditions. This improvement addresses one of the common challenges faced by EV batteries in colder climates.

The first vehicle expected to feature the new battery technology is the Yangwang U7, a high-performance electric sedan from BYD’s premium sub-brand. Equipped with a 150 kWh battery pack, the vehicle is expected to deliver a driving range of approximately 1,006 km under China’s CLTC testing cycle, which translates to roughly 825 km under the WLTP standard used internationally.

In addition to the Yangwang U7, BYD plans to introduce the Blade Battery 2.0 across several upcoming EV models from its brands, including Denza and other future BYD vehicles. The company is also working to expand its high-power charging infrastructure to support the new technology and improve accessibility for EV users.

Industry analysts view the development as a potential game-changer for the electric vehicle industry, as faster charging speeds and longer driving ranges are two of the most critical factors influencing consumer adoption of EVs. By reducing charging time to just a few minutes, the technology could bring EV convenience closer to the experience of refueling a conventional gasoline vehicle.

The introduction of the Blade Battery 2.0 also reflects the intensifying global competition among automakers and battery manufacturers to develop next-generation EV technologies. As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow worldwide, innovations in battery performance and charging infrastructure are expected to play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
