Omoda C9 PHEV Set to Launch in Malaysia on March 18 with 537 PS and 145 km EV Range

KUALA LUMPUR — The Omoda C9 PHEV, the plug-in hybrid version of the brand’s flagship SUV, is scheduled to launch in Malaysia on March 18, adding a new electrified option to the growing hybrid vehicle market in the country.

Automaker Omoda Jaecoo recently teased the upcoming launch on social media, signalling that the electrified SUV will soon join its expanding lineup of vehicles aimed at Malaysian consumers seeking more environmentally friendly mobility solutions.

The Omoda C9 PHEV is the plug-in hybrid variant of the Omoda C9 SUV, which was previously introduced as a conventional internal combustion engine model in Malaysia in late 2024. The new electrified version builds upon the existing model with a more advanced hybrid powertrain and significantly improved efficiency.

Under the hood, the SUV features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with multiple electric motors, forming part of the company’s Super Hybrid System (SHS). This advanced system enables the vehicle to produce a combined output of approximately 537 PS, delivering strong acceleration and performance comparable to many high-performance SUVs in the segment.

Thanks to its electrified drivetrain, the Omoda C9 PHEV is capable of travelling up to 145 km using electric power alone, allowing drivers to complete daily commuting without consuming petrol. When the petrol engine and battery system work together, the vehicle is estimated to achieve a combined driving range of around 1,100 km, making it suitable for long-distance travel as well.

The hybrid system combines the turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors positioned at the front and rear, enabling electric all-wheel-drive capability. This setup improves traction, stability, and overall driving performance, particularly on challenging road conditions.

Performance is another highlight of the model. Earlier previews of the vehicle suggest that the powerful hybrid setup can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds, placing it among the faster vehicles in the plug-in hybrid SUV category.

The SUV is also equipped with a 34.5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which supports both AC and DC charging. Fast charging technology allows the battery to recharge quickly, helping drivers maximise electric driving time while reducing downtime during longer journeys.

Industry observers expect the Omoda C9 PHEV to be priced at around RM220,000 in Malaysia, placing it within the premium hybrid SUV segment. The model is expected to compete with other electrified SUVs that are gaining popularity among Malaysian consumers as the country accelerates its transition toward cleaner mobility solutions.

The launch also reflects the broader strategy of Omoda Jaecoo to expand its presence in the Malaysian automotive market by introducing new energy vehicles, including hybrid and electric models.

With rising interest in electrified vehicles across Southeast Asia, the introduction of the Omoda C9 PHEV could strengthen the brand’s position in the region while offering Malaysian drivers a high-performance SUV that combines efficiency, technology, and long driving range.

The official unveiling on March 18 is expected to reveal full specifications, pricing details, and availability for Malaysian buyers.
