Mohd Khafiz Bachok Makes History by Conquering Mount Everest

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian mountaineer Mohd Khafiz Bachok has made history by successfully summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848.86 metres, at 2:25 am Nepal time today.

According to AltiPro Adventures, the organiser of the expedition, Mohd Khafiz reached the summit together with Mongolian climber Munkhuu Myagmar and two Sherpa guides: Mingma Dorchi Sherpa (Saila) and Karma Gyalje Sherpa. Approximately 10 minutes later, another group consisting of Australian climber Jennifer Claire Willis, Nepali climber Phunjo Jangmu Lama, along with Mingma Nurbu Sherpa and Pastenji Sherpa, also arrived safely at the summit.

This achievement places Mohd Khafiz among the elite Malaysian climbers who have conquered the “Roof of the World”. Prior to this, he had already summited Mount K2 (8,611m) in Pakistan – the world’s second-highest mountain – and Mount Manaslu (8,163m) in Nepal, the eighth-highest peak in the world.

AltiPro Adventures described the feat as a historic success for the company, marking their first Everest expedition season carried out with excellence.

“With pride and deep gratitude, we celebrate a historic achievement. This success marks the beginning of our journey in high-altitude expedition leadership, built on commitment, teamwork, safety, and unwavering resilience,” the company stated in their Facebook post.

The company also highlighted the strong spirit of teamwork, discipline, and high endurance demonstrated by all climbers and the Sherpa team throughout the challenging Himalayan expedition. Special appreciation was given to the Sherpa team for their expertise and dedication in ensuring the safety of every expedition member.

All climbers are now focused on a safe descent back to Everest Base Camp.
