Woman Stabbed In Car Near Kota Setar Restaurant, Suspect Arrested After Fleeing Scene

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – Police have arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of stabbing a woman inside a car near a restaurant in Jalan Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas, Kota Setar.

The incident reportedly happened at about 9.15pm to 9.19pm on Sunday night, when the 35-year-old victim was stabbed on the right side of her neck by a man believed to be known to her. The attack took place inside a Mazda 3 parked near the restaurant.

According to earlier reports, the victim was in the driver’s seat at the time of the incident. The suspect allegedly fled the scene after the stabbing, prompting police to launch a search for him.

Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali later confirmed that the suspect had been arrested early Monday morning. The suspect is expected to be remanded to assist further investigation.

The victim was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah for treatment after sustaining injuries to her neck. Her condition was reported to be stable.

Initial investigations found that the victim and the suspect knew each other, as both were believed to have been in the same vehicle before the attack occurred. Police said the motive behind the incident is still under investigation.

Police were also reported to be tracking down the weapon used in the incident as part of the investigation. Forensic personnel from the Kedah police contingent headquarters were seen inspecting the vehicle and the surrounding area after the stabbing.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. If convicted, the offence carries a punishment of up to 20 years in prison, caning and a fine.

The incident has drawn public attention after it was first reported that the suspect fled the scene following the attack. The latest update, however, confirms that police have since detained the man believed to be involved.

The case also highlights concerns over violent incidents involving people known to each other, especially when attacks occur in public areas such as restaurant compounds or roadside parking spaces.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances leading to the stabbing, including the relationship between the victim and the suspect, the motive behind the attack and the weapon allegedly used.
