Teen Mercedes-Benz Driver Remanded After Simpang Renggam Crash Kills Five, Including Four Family Members

KUALA LUMPUR,June, 2026 – A 19-year-old male driver has been remanded for two days to assist police investigations into a fatal crash that killed five people, including four members of one family, on Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam in Johor.

The remand order was issued on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, by Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at the Batu Pahat Magistrates’ Court. The remand runs until Wednesday, June 3, to allow further investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The suspect, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250, arrived at the court premises at about 10.20am dressed in brown lockup attire and accompanied by police officers.

Police had earlier confirmed the arrest of the local teenager following the deadly crash, which involved five vehicles. The incident has since drawn widespread public attention due to the number of lives lost and the involvement of two high-powered vehicles in the collision.

According to Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, initial investigations found that the suspect was believed to have been driving recklessly together with a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother.

The crash happened at about 1.15pm on Monday, June 1, 2026. Initial police findings showed that the BMW 530e lost control at the scene before entering the opposite lane and crashing into several vehicles.

The vehicles involved in the crash included a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira, another Mercedes-Benz, and the BMW 530e. The chain collision caused devastating consequences, with five people losing their lives.

Four members of a family, including a 10-year-old girl, were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries. The suspect’s brother, who was driving the BMW 530e, was reported to have died while being taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.
