Ederson’s Move to Manchester United Earns Strong Marks

Kuala Lumpur – Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta for a reported £35 million. The deal has been praised as a sensible and well-judged piece of business by the Red Devils.

GOAL has awarded the transfer high marks across the board in its latest assessment of the biggest deals of the 2026 summer window.

Atalanta receive an A grade. The Italian club once again demonstrated their outstanding recruitment model, having signed Ederson from Salernitana for around €23 million in 2022. They developed him into a key player during their historic Europa League triumph and have now sold him at a significant profit with just one year left on his contract. Interest from Atlético Madrid was firmly rejected as United met Atalanta’s valuation.

Manchester United are awarded a B+. The signing is described as a rare sensible move from the club. With Casemiro having departed, Ederson provides a like-for-like replacement — a combative, ball-winning Brazilian midfielder who can also contribute in the final third. Although his form has dipped over the past year, he is expected to form a strong partnership with Kobbie Mainoo and represents a clear upgrade on recent options in that role.

Ederson himself earns an A. The 26-year-old has long wanted to play in the Premier League, and this move gives him the platform to revive his career under more stable management at Old Trafford. A strong start could also help him force his way back into the Brazil national team.

The deal is seen as one of the more prudent early moves of the summer window, which remains open until 1 September 2026.
