PERKESO and 7-Eleven Malaysia Partner to Expand Return-to-Work Opportunities Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 2026 — Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Berhad to strengthen pathways for insured persons undergoing rehabilitation to successfully return to employment. The initiative is designed to provide practical work experience, skills development, and employment opportunities for participants under PERKESO’s Return-to-Work (RTW) programme.

The partnership marks a significant step in promoting inclusive employment by helping individuals recovering from injuries, illnesses, or disabilities regain confidence and reintegrate into the workforce through structured workplace exposure.

Under the agreement, approximately 120 RTW participants are expected to join the work trial programme over a one-year period. The initiative will be implemented in phases, with five participants selected for each session.

Each participant will undergo a two-week work trial in an actual retail environment, allowing them to rebuild workplace confidence, develop practical skills, and demonstrate their capabilities to potential employers. PERKESO believes the programme will help remove barriers that often prevent rehabilitation participants from re-entering the labour market.

7-Eleven Malaysia’s extensive network of more than 2,700 stores nationwide makes the company a suitable partner for the initiative. Many outlets are located within residential communities, making workplaces more accessible for participants undergoing rehabilitation.

The convenience store operator will provide pre-employment training, hands-on workplace exposure, and potential job placements for RTW participants. The company’s flexible shift-based working system is also expected to support individuals who require gradual reintegration into employment.

According to company representatives, this is the first formal employment-focused collaboration between 7-Eleven Malaysia and PERKESO. Both organizations expressed optimism that the partnership will create meaningful employment opportunities while encouraging greater workforce inclusivity.

The collaboration aligns with PERKESO’s broader efforts to increase employment participation among individuals recovering from workplace injuries and health conditions. Previous RTW initiatives have demonstrated strong success rates in helping participants secure long-term employment after rehabilitation.

The agreement was signed during an event that also featured the signing of a renewable energy supply agreement involving PERKESO, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and GSPARX. Together, the initiatives reflect PERKESO’s commitment to both social development and sustainable growth.

Industry observers view the partnership as a positive example of collaboration between public institutions and the private sector in addressing workforce challenges while creating opportunities for individuals seeking a second chance in employment.
