Citrawarna 2026 Returns to Dataran Merdeka for Three-Day Malaysian Cultural Festival

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Citrawarna 2026 is set to return to Dataran Merdeka from July 24 to 26, bringing together performers, cultural groups, artisans and food operators from across Malaysia for a three-day celebration of the country’s diverse heritage.

Organised as a signature event under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, this year’s festival carries the theme “The Rhythm. The Soul. The Nation.” The programme is designed to showcase Malaysia’s cultural identity through music, dance, food, visual art and traditional storytelling.

Admission to the festival is free, with organisers expecting approximately 50,000 visitors each day. The event is intended for both domestic and international tourists seeking to experience the country’s multicultural traditions within the historic heart of Kuala Lumpur.

The festival will be structured around four main experiences: Colours of Parade, Colours of Flavour, Colours of Culture and Colours of Art. Together, the segments will provide visitors with a broad introduction to Malaysian heritage, ranging from large-scale performances to food, handicrafts and community activities.

Colours of Parade will serve as the festival’s main attraction, combining music, dance and storytelling through cultural contingents representing different parts of Malaysia. The flagship parade is scheduled for July 25 from 8pm and will feature 14 contingents participating in a major performance at Dataran Merdeka.

Colours of Flavour will highlight Malaysia’s culinary heritage through traditional dishes and authentic gastronomic experiences. The programme is expected to give visitors an opportunity to explore the flavours associated with the country’s different communities and regions.

Colours of Culture will present traditional performances, community-based activities and cultural expressions reflecting Malaysia’s multicultural population. Through music, costumes and live presentations, the segment will illustrate how different traditions contribute to the country’s shared national identity.

Colours of Art will focus on locally produced handicrafts, creative showcases and live demonstrations by Malaysian artisans. Visitors will be able to observe creative processes while learning more about traditional skills that continue to be preserved and developed by local communities.

Citrawarna, also known as Colours of Malaysia, was first introduced in 1999 as a platform to promote the country’s arts, culture, heritage and natural diversity. It has since developed into one of Malaysia’s main cultural tourism events, bringing together communities from across the country while promoting national unity and appreciation of local traditions.

The 2026 edition is organised by Tourism Malaysia in collaboration with Yes Travel & Holidays Sdn Bhd, with support from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Warisan Kuala Lumpur and other cultural partners. Organisers said the collaboration reflects efforts to create internationally appealing tourism experiences while supporting local communities and sustainable industry growth.

Beyond its cultural importance, the festival is also expected to support Kuala Lumpur’s tourism economy. Increased visitor numbers could generate additional business for hotels, tour operators, restaurants, transport providers and local traders during the event period.

Hotels and accommodation providers have also been encouraged to introduce special room rates, promotional packages and visitor offers during the festival. These initiatives are intended to encourage longer stays and increase tourism spending in the capital.

The event supports the broader goals of Visit Malaysia 2026, which promotes the country’s natural attractions, multicultural heritage and diverse tourism experiences. The campaign also places emphasis on sustainable tourism, inclusive economic growth and long-term benefits for local communities and industry stakeholders.
