Panasonic Malaysia to Close PAVCKM Operations, Affecting 400 Employees

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd has announced plans to close the television manufacturing operations of Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Sdn Bhd, commonly known as PAVCKM, in Shah Alam.

The closure will begin in September 2026 as the electronics company restructures and optimises its manufacturing network in Malaysia.

Panasonic said the decision is expected to affect up to 400 employees by the end of March 2027. The full impact will follow the planned discontinuation of Technics-branded Hi-Fi audio production at the end of February 2027.

The company said it will work closely with government authorities, relevant agencies and the Electrical Industry Workers’ Union to support employees affected by the operational changes.

Support measures are expected to include employment relocation assistance and career-transition programmes aimed at helping workers secure alternative opportunities.

Production currently handled by PAVCKM will be transferred to other facilities within the Panasonic Group. The company said the move is part of its broader efforts to strengthen competitiveness and improve the efficiency of its Malaysian manufacturing operations.

Despite the closure of PAVCKM’s television manufacturing activities, Panasonic confirmed that it will continue producing audio products in Malaysia.

The company also plans to enhance the overall efficiency of its manufacturing, sales and service operations for televisions and audio products in the country.

As part of the restructuring, PAVCKM will relocate the production of Blu-ray Disc players to China Hualu Panasonic AVC Networks Co Ltd in China.

Panasonic said the transfer is intended to strengthen the competitiveness of its audiovisual business amid changes in the global consumer-electronics market.

The closure represents a significant adjustment to Panasonic’s manufacturing footprint in Malaysia, particularly within its television and home-entertainment operations.

However, the company stressed that Malaysia will remain one of its main regional hubs.

Panasonic currently employs approximately 12,000 people across various business divisions in Malaysia, including high-value manufacturing, research and development, and corporate activities.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing investments in Malaysia as part of its strategy to support the development of a higher-value supply chain.

Panasonic said its continued presence and investment would reflect its long-term commitment to Malaysia and the communities in which it operates.
