PGA Seizes 60,000 Smuggled Cigarettes, Arrests Vellfire Driver in Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — The General Operations Force (PGA) seized 60,000 suspected untaxed white cigarettes worth RM112,200 after stopping a Toyota Vellfire near Jambatan Pasir Tumboh in Kelantan early on August 9.

Southeast Brigade PGA Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said personnel from the 7th Battalion detected the vehicle at about 1.30am while conducting Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan before stopping it for inspection.

No illegal items were initially found on the driver, but a further search of the vehicle uncovered the cigarettes, which were believed to have been smuggled. The 37-year-old driver also tested positive for drugs and failed to produce documents related to the goods.

Authorities also seized the black Toyota Vellfire, estimated to be worth RM95,000, along with two mobile phones valued at RM3,000 and RM250 in cash.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect claimed to have worked as a full-time driver for the past three years and was allegedly paid RM200 for each delivery.
