KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Police have arrested 12 individuals suspected of impersonating civil servants and carrying out a gang robbery against a foreign national in Cheras earlier this month.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the suspects, aged between 26 and 48, were detained during a series of special operations conducted around Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan beginning August 2.
The arrests followed a police report lodged by a Japanese man, who informed authorities that his employer, a Taiwanese national working as a YouTuber, had been assaulted and robbed at Eko Cheras Residence in Cheras on August 1.
The victim suffered injuries and losses estimated at approximately RM35,000. Police believe the suspects targeted him after learning that he kept a significant amount of high-value foreign currency.
According to Fadil, seven suspects were released on police bail on August 7 after their statements were recorded, while another five remained in remand to assist investigations.
Police are investigating the case under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
Authorities are also actively searching for one remaining suspect believed to be involved in the case.
The arrests form part of ongoing police efforts to track down those involved in the robbery and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
