Jamal Musiala Reveals Neurological Dysfunction After Second On-Pitch Collapse

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he is dealing with a neurological dysfunction after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in a matter of days.

The 23-year-old went down during Bayern Munich’s friendly match against Heidenheim on Tuesday, shortly after coming on as a substitute. The incident caused concern among teammates, medical staff and supporters, especially because a similar episode had taken place just days earlier during Bayern’s match against RB Leipzig.

Musiala later issued a personal statement to calm public concern, saying that he is doing well and is grateful for the support he has received from fans. He explained that doctors had diagnosed him with temporary and brief “absence” episodes, which are treatable and linked to neurological dysfunction.

According to Musiala, the condition can lead to moments similar to what happened against Leipzig and Heidenheim. He acknowledged that the incidents may look alarming from the outside, but said he is currently receiving strong medical care and remains optimistic about his recovery.

The latest incident occurred during Bayern’s 4-2 friendly victory over Heidenheim. Musiala had only been on the pitch for several minutes when he collapsed off the ball, prompting Bayern’s medical team to rush to his side. He was later able to get back up and leave the pitch before being substituted.

The episode came after a similar scare in Bayern’s 3-1 win over RB Leipzig last Saturday. At the time, the incident had raised questions among fans, and the second collapse increased concern over Musiala’s condition.

Despite the worrying scenes, Musiala stressed that there is no additional health risk beyond the diagnosed condition. He said the decision to continue his normal routine and play football was made after close consultation with neurological specialists.

The Bayern star also said that continuing his daily life and pursuing football remain important parts of his recovery process. He added that Bayern Munich, his family and those close to him have continued to support him throughout the situation.

Musiala’s update has brought some relief to supporters who had been worried after seeing him collapse twice in a short period. However, the situation is still expected to be monitored carefully by Bayern’s medical staff and neurological specialists.

The midfielder also asked for understanding as he intends to keep further details of his condition within a small circle involving his closest confidants, the club and medical experts.

For Bayern Munich, Musiala remains one of the club’s most important attacking players. His health will now be the main priority as the team continues its preparations for the new season.

The incident also highlights the importance of medical supervision in professional football, particularly when players experience repeated health episodes during matches.

For now, Musiala’s message is clear: he is doing well, receiving medical treatment and remains determined to continue his football career with the support of Bayern Munich, his family and fans.
