NexG Confirms Government Interest in Possible RM7.5 Billion Datasonic Acquisition

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — NexG Bhd has confirmed that the government has sought an indicative price for the possible acquisition of its wholly owned subsidiary, Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), the group’s core business and a major contributor to revenue and earnings.

The clarification followed reports suggesting that Putrajaya was considering a potential RM7.5 billion acquisition of Datasonic, which supplies key identity documents including MyKad and Malaysian passports.

NexG said the request was made verbally by the Ministry of Finance during a meeting on July 24, 2026. The ministry asked Datasonic to assess three scenarios: compensation if its MyKad supply contract were terminated, an indicative price for the acquisition of DTSB, and an indicative price for a controlling stake in NexG.

Following the request, NexG management conducted an internal assessment using the discounted cash flow method, taking into account future earnings potential, projected cash flows, business sustainability and other operational factors. The exercise produced an indicative value of about RM7.5 billion for Datasonic.

However, NexG stressed that the RM7.5 billion figure is not an independent valuation, agreed transaction price or firm government offer. Any potential deal would still require further negotiations and, where appropriate, an independent valuation.

The company also warned that selling Datasonic could have a significant impact on NexG because the subsidiary represents its core business and contributes substantially to group revenue and earnings. A disposal could also affect NexG’s continued listing status on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Market.

If the proposed transaction progresses, NexG said it would comply with all relevant regulatory requirements, which could include approvals from shareholders, Bursa Malaysia Securities and other authorities. Trading in NexG shares was halted at the time of the announcement.
