Apple Prepares Expanded Satellite Features for iPhone

Cupertino, El Sky News — Apple Inc. is actively developing a new wave of satellite-connectivity features for its iPhone lineup, aiming to broaden device functionality when users are outside of standard cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

The company has already introduced its Emergency SOS via Satellite capability on iPhone 14 and later models, which allows users to text emergency services when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi signal. More recently, Apple extended certain satellite-messaging features to iPhone 13 models via the iOS 18.5 update.

According to recent reports, Apple is preparing five new satellite-connectivity features for future iPhones. These may include enhanced messaging functions, navigation without a SIM, and additional services that rely on satellite networks.

The satellite support is enabled through partnerships with third-party network operators. For example, Apple works alongside Globalstar, Inc. for its existing features. Apple’s strategy marks a move toward connecting users even when conventional network infrastructure is unavailable.

While the exact timeline and rollout details of the upcoming features have not been publicly confirmed, this expansion suggests Apple is positioning its devices to handle more scenarios in remote or connectivity-challenged environments.
