Heated Debate in Parliament Over MADANI Economic Policy: PM Pressed to Reveal Anti-Leakage Figures

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – The implementation of the MADANI Economic Policy took centre stage in today’s Dewan Rakyat session, as Members of Parliament urged the government to provide detailed updates and assurances on the policy’s effectiveness in driving growth and maintaining socio-economic stability.

This morning’s debate and oral question session focused on the government’s long-term strategy to strengthen the foundations of the MADANI economy amid global economic uncertainties.

Calls for Clarity on MADANI Outcomes

Several MPs voiced concerns over the pace of key MADANI initiatives, particularly those involving digital transformation and the enhancement of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) competitiveness.

“The government must ensure that the MADANI Economic Policy is not just rhetoric but genuinely benefits the ordinary people. What are the latest indicators showing its success in improving household income and reducing the cost of living?” questioned an Opposition MP.

In response, the Minister of Economy maintained an optimistic stance, stating that the policy remains on the right track, with significant progress in boosting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and streamlining business processes nationwide.

Strong Focus on Curbing Revenue Leakages

The Prime Minister also faced persistent questioning over the government’s concrete actions to combat corruption and revenue leakages that continue to affect national finances.

Integrity in public financial management was the core issue, with MPs demanding the Prime Minister disclose the total value of recovered assets and penalties collected from individuals and entities involved in misappropriation cases.

“The people deserve to know how much has been saved and returned to the nation’s coffers through enforcement efforts by agencies like the MACC and the Inland Revenue Board. These figures are crucial proof of the government’s commitment to clean governance and zero leakages,” stressed a government MP.

The Prime Minister is expected to deliver a comprehensive response during his closing remarks, which will likely include a new action plan to enhance tax collection efficiency and tighten oversight of public spending.

Today’s debate underscored both the government’s and lawmakers’ shared priority: ensuring that the economic growth achieved under the MADANI framework remains sustainable, inclusive, and free from mismanagement.
