Aznan Tamin: Johor AI Council Key to Coordinating State’s Artificial Intelligence Agenda

JOHOR BAHRU, El Sky News – The Johor state government has formed the Johor Artificial Intelligence Council (Majlis AI Johor) to coordinate all artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives and activities across the state.

Chairman of the Johor State Education and Information Committee, Aznan Tamin, said the establishment of the council is crucial to ensure that every AI-related effort can move forward in an organized and unified manner.

“Majlis ini penting supaya segala inisiatif, dasar dan aktiviti berkaitan AI dapat digerakkan secara menyeluruh di bawah satu agensi penyelaras,” katanya.
(“This council is important to ensure that all initiatives, policies and activities related to AI can be implemented comprehensively under a single coordinating agency,” he said.)

He explained that the council’s membership will include representatives from government agencies involved in the digital and ICT sectors, alongside AI experts from outside the government.

“Keanggotaan Majlis AI Johor ini akan terdiri daripada wakil agensi kerajaan berkaitan digital dan ICT serta pakar AI luar kerajaan,” jelasnya.

Aznan added that this initiative is part of Johor’s broader ambition to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and data by 2030.

“Penubuhan Majlis AI Johor ini merupakan langkah penting ke arah menjadikan Johor sebagai hab kecerdasan buatan (AI) dan data serantau menjelang tahun 2030,” tambahnya.

He further stated that the state government views AI as a vital driver of progress in governance, education, and the economy. By creating this council, Johor aims to build an AI ecosystem that supports innovation, research, and public-private collaboration to strengthen its position in Malaysia’s digital transformation efforts.
