Trump Announces Priority Visa System for 2026 World Cup Ticket Holders

Washington, El Sky News — President Donald Trump has introduced a new visa-priority scheme aimed at easing travel for international fans attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative, known as the FIFA PASS (FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System), will allow verified ticket holders to secure faster visa-interview appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates.

The announcement was made at the White House alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and senior U.S. officials. Under the programme, fans who purchased their tickets through FIFA’s official channels will be eligible to access a dedicated system granting expedited scheduling. The initiative is expected to roll out in early 2026, months before the tournament begins across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

U.S. authorities have already expanded their global consular workforce, adding hundreds of officers to handle the anticipated surge in visa applications. Officials say that wait times for interviews in many countries have been significantly reduced, though demand is projected to rise sharply as the tournament approaches.

Despite offering faster appointments, the FIFA PASS does not guarantee visa approval. All applicants will continue to undergo standard security screenings and eligibility checks. Officials stressed that the programme speeds up access to interview slots—but does not relax immigration rules.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to draw between five and ten million international visitors, making it one of the largest sporting events in history. U.S. leaders have described the programme as both a logistical necessity and an economic opportunity, with projections of substantial tourism revenue and job creation.

While the initiative has been welcomed by FIFA and many fans, some analysts caution that prioritised interviews may not fully resolve visa challenges, especially for applicants facing strict background assessments. Nonetheless, the FIFA PASS marks one of the most significant visa-processing changes ever introduced for a major global sporting event.
