Samarahan Food & Cultural Festival 2025: A 10-Day Celebration of Culinary Heritage & Cultural Unity

Samarahan, El Sky News — The much-awaited Samarahan Food & Cultural Festival (SFCF) 2025 will take place from November 21 to 29 at the MPKS Tamu Site, Desa Ilmu, Kota Samarahan. Organized by the Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), the festival aims to highlight the rich culinary heritage and cultural diversity of the Samarahan region.

Officials confirmed that the event will bring together food, arts, performances, entrepreneurship, and tourism in one major public celebration.

Showcasing Ethnic Diversity Through Food & Culture

According to the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the festival will showcase traditional food, customs, art, and cultural performances from various ethnic groups including Melayu, Iban, Bidayuh, Bugis, Jawa, and Chinese communities.

UNIMAS (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) will also collaborate on cross-cultural performances featuring participants from Kelantan, Kedah, Melaka, Indonesia, and Thailand, making this year’s edition more international and dynamic.

Nightly Cultural Performances

Every evening, visitors can enjoy traditional cultural showcases such as:

  • Bermukun, Bertandak & Kompang (Melayu)
  • Gendang Pampat (Iban)
  • Bugis & Chinese cultural performances
  • Special stage appearances by artists such as Baby Shima, Baggio Damasutra, Mawat, Rickie Andrewson, and Winnie Albert

These performances emphasize unity and cultural pride among the communities of Sarawak.

Side Activities & Community Engagement

The festival will also feature a variety of public programs and competitions, including:

  • Samarahan Idol (talent competition)
  • SFCF Fun Run – 5km (November 22)
  • Cooking competitions
  • Aerobathon Challenge
  • Pineapple decoration contest
  • Battle of the Bands
  • Three hours of non-stop Zumba sessions every night

These activities are expected to attract mass participation and create a festive atmosphere throughout the 10-day event.

Tourism Impact & Visitor Target

MPKS targets over 250,000 attendees with potential to reach 400,000–500,000 visitors if momentum increases. The long-term goal is to position SFCF as a signature annual event on Sarawak’s tourism calendar and establish Samarahan as a competitive tourism hub.

Future Plans & Government Support

Government officials indicated plans to expand funding and support for future editions of SFCF to ensure its sustainability and tourism impact. The collaboration between MPKS and UNIMAS is expected to grow stronger, setting the foundation for a larger cultural and tourism platform for the coming years.

The Samarahan Food & Cultural Festival 2025 is more than just a food event it is a celebration of identity, unity, entrepreneurship, and cultural pride. With its diverse programs and large expected turnout, SFCF is set to become one of Sarawak’s most significant cultural showcases.
