Surge in Support for Warisan as Ma’mun Promises to Solve Core Issues in Kukusan

Sabah, El Sky News — Momentum appears to be shifting in favour of Parti Warisan as the state election approaches, with the party reporting a noticeable rise in support in the Kukusan constituency. Warisan’s candidate, Ma’mun Sulaiman, says the surge reflects voter frustration over long-standing infrastructure problems and a desire for more reliable development.

During his campaign rounds, Ma’mun highlighted that residents are increasingly vocal about basic necessities still not being met. Issues such as inconsistent water supply, power disruptions, poor road conditions, and a lack of stable job opportunities continue to dominate conversations with local voters. He stressed that these fundamental concerns would become his top priority if entrusted with the mandate to lead.

According to Ma’mun, many young people in Sabah feel compelled to migrate to larger cities or other countries because they do not see viable economic prospects at home. He believes that improving infrastructure and stimulating the local economy could slow this outflow and create more sustainable livelihoods for Kukusan’s youth.

In addition to improving essential public utilities, Ma’mun has outlined a proposal to turn unused land near the old Tawau Airport into a new industrial zone. He argues that its close proximity to Tawau Port makes it suitable for attracting new businesses and generating employment for the surrounding communities.

The Kukusan contest is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the upcoming election. Ma’mun faces nine challengers, including his own sister, who is contesting the seat under the banner of a rival coalition. The crowded field underscores the strategic importance of Kukusan and the strong interest in winning over its increasingly issue-driven electorate.

Warisan’s broader campaign this year is anchored on addressing Sabah’s long-standing infrastructure deficits. Party leaders have repeatedly urged voters to consider which administration can deliver consistent water supply, stable electricity, better roads, and real economic progress — issues that have become central to daily life for many communities.

As the campaign intensifies, Ma’mun’s commitment to resolving these core problems has resonated with voters seeking practical and immediate improvements. Whether this rising support will translate into electoral success will become clear as polling day draws nearer.
