KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Thursday morning to face proceedings under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
The Bera MP arrived at about 8.35am on August 27, dressed in a black coat. He was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin and Subang Umno chief Datuk Dr Armand Azha Abu Hanifah.
Court records indicate that Ismail Sabri is expected to face a charge under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009, which is related to the declaration of assets. The proceedings before Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin were scheduled to begin at 9am.
The case had originally been scheduled for August 7, but the reading of the charge and recording of his plea were postponed after Ismail Sabri was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to health complications.
His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, previously told the court that Ismail Sabri experienced possible arrhythmia while having his statement recorded at MACC headquarters on August 6. The former prime minister subsequently underwent a leadless pacemaker implantation procedure.
Amer Hamzah said his client remained under MACC bail and there were no concerns that he would abscond. The prosecution had agreed to the earlier postponement on medical grounds.
The MACC investigation has involved Ismail Sabri’s asset declaration and earlier searches connected to investigations involving several of his former senior officers. Authorities previously reported seizures that included large amounts of cash in multiple currencies and gold bars as part of the wider probe.
