Malaysia Must Accelerate Tech Adoption and Strengthen Supply Chain — Says Deputy PM Fadillah Yusof

Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has urged Malaysia to accelerate technology adoption and strengthen its supply chain to remain competitive on the global stage.

He emphasized that technological transformation is not just about digitalization or automation, but part of a larger strategy to shift Malaysia from being merely a technology user to becoming a technology creator and innovator. According to him, Malaysia must build capabilities to develop advanced solutions rather than relying solely on foreign technologies.

During his address, Fadillah stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, industries, academic institutions, and innovators. He noted that technology should be supported with proper quality standards, certifications, and integration so that Malaysian industries can maintain long-term competitiveness.

Under the “Malaysia MADANI” framework, he highlighted that technology must serve humanity not replace it. Innovation, he said, must enhance community well-being, expand opportunities, and reinforce societal values instead of diminishing them.

As a concrete step, Fadillah referenced the government’s plan to position Malaysia as a regional hub for advanced semiconductor packaging. Through a matching fund of RM 90 million recently announced, local companies are encouraged to participate in the high-value semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

He also mentioned the upcoming National Technology Action Plan, which is in its final stages and will cover AI governance, talent development, and targeted technological applications in key sectors such as education, energy, and agriculture.

Fadillah concluded that Malaysia must strengthen its position as not only a user of technology but as a creator, innovator, and regional leader in digital transformation, aligning with the nation’s ambition to become an advanced and competitive economy.
