Kuala Lumpur, El Sky News – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that there will be no cover-up in the domestic investigation into alleged document forgery involving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and seven naturalized players.
Anwar emphasized that the Cabinet has agreed for the investigation to be conducted transparently. He called on authorities to carry out a thorough inquiry, ensuring that FAM and the individuals involved are given a fair chance to defend themselves and go through proper legal processes before any action is taken.
“Go ahead with the investigation. The process must be fair. We cannot make decisions based solely on FIFA’s outcome,” Anwar said.
Regarding potential strict action if FAM is found guilty, he stressed that measures will be taken, but only after following proper and careful procedures. Documentation issues are also under scrutiny, particularly those involving processes carried out overseas.
In addition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has suspended additional grants to FAM until the investigation is completed, as a step to ensure accountability in the management of public sports funds.
Prime Minister Anwar reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of national sports while ensuring all steps are conducted fairly, transparently, and professionally. The scandal has drawn significant attention in local sports circles as it involves naturalized players who are now part of the national squad.
