MOE Contingency Plan: SPM Candidates Remain Safe Amid Flood Threats

KUALA LUMPUR, El Sky News – The Ministry of Education (MOE) has assured that preparations for the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations are at the highest level, particularly in anticipation of the Northeast Monsoon, which often brings flooding. This proactive approach ensures the safety and smooth participation of hundreds of thousands of candidates.

Candidate Safety Is the Top Priority

Deputy Minister of Education emphasized that the primary focus is the safety of students, followed by ensuring uninterrupted examination access.

“We do not want any student to miss their SPM due to blocked routes or affected exam centres,” he stated.

Key measures include:

  • Alternative Exam Centres (AECs): Schools and community halls identified as backup centres, especially in flood-prone states like Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor.
  • Emergency Transportation: Provision of trucks, boats, and 4WD vehicles to transport candidates and exam staff if needed.
  • Secure Exam Papers: Question papers stored in water-resistant locations and monitored by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to prevent leaks or damage.
  • Additional Staff Deployment: Local teachers and staff assigned to AECs to maintain smooth operations if primary staff are unable to reach the centres.

Strengthened Inter-Agency Coordination

MOE urges parents and guardians in high-risk areas to stay prepared and maintain close contact with schools. Coordination with District Education Offices ensures candidates can be safely moved to alternative centres if necessary.

This contingency plan highlights the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s education system, ensuring that SPM examinations proceed as scheduled while providing every candidate the necessary support and protection.
