KUALA KUBU BHARU, El Sky News Student safety in Malaysian educational institutions is under serious scrutiny once again. A staff member of Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Kuala Kubu Bharu has been remanded to assist investigations into a sexual harassment case involving three female students at the school’s residential hostel.

The 48-year-old local man was reportedly remanded for seven days by the Kuala Kubu Bharu Sessions Court, commencing yesterday, following his arrest after reports were lodged by the victims.

Hostel Intrusion: Students Targeted While Asleep

The shocking incident is understood to have occurred inside the students’ dormitory. The suspect allegedly trespassed into the hostel and performed indecent touching on the three 16-year-old teenage girls while they were sleeping.

Authorities received three separate police reports from the victims affected by the heinous act. The swift action of the Hulu Selangor District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division led to the arrest of the suspect, who, according to sources, has no prior criminal record.

Serious Charges Under Malaysian Law

The police confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. This section carries a severe penalty upon conviction, including imprisonment for up to 20 years or whipping.

This ongoing remand and investigation demonstrate the authorities’ serious commitment to combating child sexual crimes and reassures the public of the police’s quick response in protecting victims.

Urgent Need to Review Hostel Security Protocols

The incident raises critical questions about the level of control and security measures in school hostels, particularly concerning the institution’s own staff.

Relevant agencies, including those managing MRSM, are urged to take immediate and comprehensive steps to ensure such incidents are not repeated. The safety and well-being of every student in the hostel must be the absolute highest priority.

The police also advise the public with any further information regarding this case or similar incidents to come forward and file a report for swift and strict action.
