Indonesian High Court Extends Nikita Mirzani’s Sentence to Six Years, Finds Her Guilty of Money Laundering

JAKARTA, El Sky News — Indonesian actress and celebrity Nikita Mirzani has had her prison sentence increased from four years to six years following a ruling by the High Court. The court not only upheld the initial conviction but also found her guilty of an additional charge previously dismissed, according to reports from CNN Indonesia.

The High Court determined that Mirzani was legally and convincingly proven guilty of two offenses: violating the Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law and involvement in Money Laundering (TPPU). The TPPU charge was one that the South Jakarta District Court had previously deemed unproven.

“The court states that Nikita Mirzani is legally and convincingly proven guilty of intentionally and unlawfully distributing or transferring electronic information with the threat of defamation or disclosing secrets, and is also involved in the money laundering case as charged by the prosecutor,” said Chief Judge Sri Andini on Tuesday.

“The court sentences the defendant (Nikita) to a prison term of six years,” the judge added.

The decision represents an increase of two years from the four-year sentence Mirzani received last October for the extortion case involving cosmetic entrepreneur Dr. Reza Gladys.

Fine and Appeal Window

The High Court maintained the previously imposed fine. A fine of Rp1 billion ($63,700 USD) was enforced, which, if not paid, will be replaced by an additional three months of confinement.

Both Mirzani and the prosecutors have been given 14 days to file a supreme appeal should they disagree with the High Court’s verdict.
