Malaysia Maintains Top-Three Position at SEA Games 2025 as Track Cycling Dominates the Podium

BANGKOK / CHONBURI, El Sky News – The 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand have entered their high-stakes final phase, with the Malaysian contingent firmly securing its position among the top three powerhouse nations. As of Saturday morning, December 20, 2025, Malaysia has officially breached the 55-gold medal mark, fueled by a sensational performance in combat sports, athletics, and a historic clean sweep in cycling.

The highlight of the recent sessions came from the Velodrome in Chonburi, where Malaysia’s track cycling squad delivered a masterclass in sprinting. In an unprecedented “golden hat-trick,” the national sprinters swept all three gold medals contested in the individual and team sprint categories, silencing local favorites and reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a regional giant in two-wheeled racing.

“This is the result of years of meticulous high-performance training,” said a spokesperson for the National Sports Council. “To secure 55 gold medals at this stage proves that our athletes are peaking at the right moment. The momentum from the cycling track has galvanized the entire camp.”

While cycling took center stage, the Malaysian “Harimau Malaya” spirit was equally evident in the combat sport arenas. National exponents in Silat and Karate added several golds to the tally, showcasing technical superiority in a series of intense finals against strong rivals from Vietnam and Indonesia.

Over at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, the athletics team continued to exceed expectations. Malaysia’s podium presence in middle-distance running and field events has been instrumental in keeping the nation ahead of the chasing pack in the overall medal standings.

As the competition enters its twilight days, all eyes are now on the final team events, including football and badminton, where Malaysia is expected to contend for the remaining gold medals.

“The mission remains clear: to finish as high as possible and build a foundation for the upcoming Asian Games,” the sports official added. With the current trajectory, Malaysia is well on its path to achieving its most successful away-SEA Games record in recent history.
