Makkal Sakti Pledges Solidarity with MIC, Denies Intent to Replace BN Ally

BUTTERWORTH, El Sky News – The Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party (Makkal Sakti) has dismissed claims that it aims to take over the role of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) within the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

Speaking at the party’s 17th Annual General Assembly on Sunday, President Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran clarified that Makkal Sakti has no intention of capitalizing on any internal friction between MIC and the BN leadership.

Respecting a 70-Year Legacy

Thanenthiran emphasized that the party’s principle is built on cooperation rather than competition. He noted that MIC’s long-standing history of over seven decades in championing the Indian community’s interests must be respected.

“Makkal Sakti is not an alternative to MIC. We will never oppose them; instead, we aim to work alongside MIC to strengthen our collective voice for the betterment of the Indian community in Malaysia,” he told reporters. He further described his relationship with MIC President Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran as being as close as “siblings.”

Political Context and BN’s Future

The statement comes amid speculation regarding MIC’s future position within BN, following reports of the party’s potential interest in other political alignments. Deputy Prime Minister and BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who officiated the assembly, stated that no final decision has been made concerning MIC’s status in the coalition.

Zahid also touched upon the possibility of BN undergoing a “rebranding” exercise to stay relevant in the evolving political landscape, though he reaffirmed the coalition’s unwavering loyalty to the current Unity Government.

Focus on the Indian Community

Beyond party politics, Thanenthiran used the assembly to urge the government to prioritize the full implementation of the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB), which was originally launched in 2017. He stressed that the comprehensive execution of this plan is vital for the socio-economic development of the community.
