WhatsApp Leads the Digital Charge According to the data, WhatsApp remains the most indispensable application for Malaysians, with a staggering 71 percent of respondents accessing the platform daily throughout the week. This high level of engagement underscores the app’s role as the primary hub for both personal and professional coordination.

The study also tracked the daily footprint of other major social media platforms:

• Facebook: 51 percent daily usage.
• TikTok: 49 percent daily usage.
• Instagram: 45 percent daily usage.
• X (formerly Twitter): 30 percent daily usage.

The rise of TikTok and Instagram to near 50-percent daily usage reflects a growing preference for visual storytelling and short-form video content as a primary source of entertainment and information.

An “Always-On” Culture Beyond specific applications, the study found that general internet usage is incredibly widespread. 61 percent of respondents reported being active online throughout the entire week, indicating that the internet is a ubiquitous presence in Malaysian households, workplaces, and public spaces.
