Service Restoration Underway: Telecommunications Disrupted in Kuala Kangsar Following Tower Incident

KUALA KANGSAR, PERAK, El Sky News – Residents in several areas surrounding Kuala Kangsar are currently facing telecommunications service disruptions following a structural fire at a key communication tower. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released an official statement today confirming that the incident occurred at 6:50 PM yesterday in Kampung Kelebor.

The affected facility, a communication tower owned by Maxis, also serves as a shared infrastructure hub hosting transmitter equipment for CelcomDigi. As a result, users of Maxis, CelcomDigi, and UMobile (via roaming/sharing agreements) in the vicinity may experience intermittent connectivity or a total loss of signal.

Affected Communities The MCMC has identified several villages and residential zones currently experiencing service outages. The primary areas affected include:

  • Kampung Kelebor
  • Kampung Langkap Ketior
  • Kampung Rambai 7
  • Kampung Menora
  • Kampung Senggang
  • Kampung Ulu Kenas
  • Kampung Lempor

Swift Emergency Response Local authorities and fire rescue teams were dispatched to the site immediately after the fire was reported last evening. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the priority has shifted toward ensuring public safety and stabilizing the remaining infrastructure.

Technical Recovery and Temporary Solutions The MCMC is working closely with the service providers to expedite the restoration of connectivity. Engineering teams are currently on-site to assess the extent of the damage to the transmitters and structural integrity of the tower.

To minimize the impact on the local population, the following measures are being implemented:

  • Emergency Site Assessment: Technical crews from Maxis and CelcomDigi are evaluating whether mobile base stations (COWs – Cells on Wheels) can be deployed as a temporary measure.
  • Network Optimization: Neighboring towers are being tuned to expand their coverage footprint to partially cover the affected zones where possible.
  • Transparent Communication: MCMC has pledged to provide periodic updates to ensure residents are kept informed of the restoration timeline.

A Friendly Note to Users Authorities have expressed their appreciation for the patience shown by the affected communities during this unexpected disruption. Residents are advised to utilize fixed-line broadband or Wi-Fi services where available for urgent communications.

“Our primary goal is to restore these essential services as quickly and safely as possible,” an MCMC representative stated. “We understand the importance of connectivity in daily life and are coordinating all available resources to resolve the situation.”

The MCMC and the involved telecommunications companies are expected to provide a further update once the full assessment is complete and a definitive restoration schedule is established.
