Safeguarding the New Year: 225 Motorcycles Seized in Major Kuala Lumpur Traffic Operation

The operation was part of the wider “Op Ambang Tahun Baharu” (New Year’s Eve Operation), which mobilized thousands of officers across 240 locations nationwide to maintain order as crowds gathered for the countdown festivities.

Targeting Noise Pollution and High-Risk Behavior In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, traffic enforcement officers focused their efforts on high-risk areas known for motorcycle activity. The seizures included a high concentration of popular moped models, which are frequently subject to structural modifications:

• Yamaha Y15ZR (Y Suku): 90 units impounded.
• Yamaha 135LC: 135 units impounded.

Authorities noted that the primary reasons for the seizures were illegal exhaust modifications—which contribute significantly to noise pollution—and structural changes that compromise the safety and technical specifications of the vehicles.

Ensuring a Quiet and Secure Celebration AC Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), confirmed that the operation was prompted by public feedback regarding noise disturbances and the safety risks posed by reckless riding.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the festivities in a safe environment,” a police spokesperson remarked. “By taking these vehicles off the road, we are reducing the risk of accidents and minimizing the nuisance caused by modified machines that do not meet legal standards.”

Key Highlights of the Operation:

• Comprehensive Inspections: In addition to the seizures, officers inspected over 800 motorcycles and issued a total of 778 summonses for various traffic violations.
• Youth Engagement: Many of the individuals detained during the operation were between the ages of 15 and 19. Authorities have used this opportunity to advise young riders and their parents on the importance of road safety and legal compliance.
