PAS to Lead Perikatan Nasional, Candidate for Chairman Already Identified – Hadi Awang

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has confirmed that the party will take the lead in steering the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. This decision follows the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the coalition’s chairman earlier this year.

Speaking to reporters after a lecture at Masjid Rusila today, Abdul Hadi emphasized that the move aligns with a resolution passed during the PAS Muktamar, which mandated the party to head the opposition bloc.

“That was the resolution of the PAS Muktamar—for PAS to become the chairman of PN,” he stated.

While Muhyiddin Yassin technically remains in the post for the time being, Abdul Hadi revealed that PAS has already identified a suitable candidate to officially take over the leadership. However, the specific name of the nominee has yet to be disclosed to the public.

The transition process appears to be in its final stages. Despite some administrative delays and the fact that a formal PN meeting has not yet been convened to finalize the appointment, Abdul Hadi expects the matter to be resolved shortly.

“It should be settled within the next week or two,” he added, noting the urgency as the coalition prepares for upcoming elections. The appointment is seen as a strategic move to stabilize the coalition’s direction and leadership structure ahead of the national polls.
