Polling Stations Open as Kinabatangan and Lamag Elect New Representatives

KINABATANGAN, El Sky News – A total of 36 polling centers with 117 voting streams officially opened at 7:30 a.m. today for the Kinabatangan Parliamentary and Lamag State by-elections.

The voting process involves 48,282 registered voters who are expected to cast their ballots to elect new representatives following the passing of the long-serving incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, last December.

Operational Details and Logistics According to the Election Commission (EC), while most centers will remain open until 5:30 p.m., two specific polling stations are scheduled to close as early as 12:00 p.m. Other centers will shut down in stages starting from 1:00 p.m., depending on the predetermined voting hours for each locality.

To ensure a smooth process, 1,106 EC personnel have been deployed, supported by 926 police officers maintaining security at all locations. Earlier this week, the EC reported a high turnout for early voting, with 93 percent of police personnel having already fulfilled their duties on Tuesday.

The Candidates The Kinabatangan Parliamentary seat features a three-way contest. Barisan Nasional (BN) has fielded Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, who is being challenged by Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Parti Warisan and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.

Meanwhile, the Lamag State assembly seat sees a straight head-to-head battle between BN’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek. All five candidates are scheduled to cast their votes at their respective polling stations throughout the morning.

Final Tally The official vote counting will take place at the Sri Lamag Hall. The Election Commission expects the final results for both seats to be announced by 10:00 p.m. tonight
