Wife of Former Army Chief Charged with Receiving RM5,000 in Illicit Funds

KUALA LUMPUR – Salwani Anuar@Kamaruddin, the wife of former Army Chief (PTD) Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, was charged in the Sessions Court here on Sunday with receiving RM5,000 linked to illegal activities last year.

The 27-year-old pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Mohd Azhar Othman. “I plead not guilty and request a trial,” she stated in response to the allegations.

According to the charge sheet, Salwani is accused of receiving RM5,000, believed to be proceeds from illicit activities, which was deposited into her personal bank account. The offense allegedly took place at a bank branch in Kerteh, Besut, on January 16, 2025.

Health Condition and Court Appearance

During the proceedings, Salwani was seen using a wheelchair to enter the court building. It was reported that she is currently suffering from a chronic boil on her thigh, which necessitated the mobility assistance.

The case follows recent legal developments involving her husband, Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain, who was also charged in a Shah Alam Sessions Court last week with receiving RM145,000 in illicit funds. His case has since been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Court for further proceedings.

Legal Ramifications

The court has scheduled the case for further mention and to allow for the submission of documents. The prosecution emphasized that a long history of service or contributions to the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) does not exempt individuals from legal scrutiny and due process.

The defense is expected to present their arguments as the trial moves forward.
