‘Inconsistent Partner’: Ahmad Maslan Critiques PAS Over Coalition Loyalty

KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has characterized PAS as an inconsistent political partner, describing their commitment to coalitions as “fleeting” and unpredictable.

Speaking to reporters after a community event in Benut on Saturday, Ahmad Maslan responded to recent statements regarding the political cooperation between PAS and other parties in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance. He noted that the Islamic party’s history of shifting alliances makes it difficult for partners to establish long-term stability.

A History of Shifting Ties Ahmad Maslan pointed out that PAS has a track record of being “present one moment and gone the next” (sekejap ada, sekejap tiada) when it comes to formal partnerships. He referenced the various incarnations of coalitions PAS has joined and eventually exited over the past decade.

“We have seen this pattern before. They enter a partnership, but when the situation changes or a better opportunity arises, the commitment wavers,” he said. He further suggested that this inconsistency often leaves their allies in a state of uncertainty.

Focus on BN Strength Despite the critiques of rival parties, Ahmad Maslan emphasized that Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO are prioritizing their own internal strength and their current role within the Unity Government. He asserted that BN’s focus remains on delivering service to the people rather than being distracted by the internal dynamics of the opposition.

“Our priority is stability. We want to ensure that the government remains focused on economic recovery and the welfare of the rakyat,” he added.

Looking Toward GE16 As political parties begin to lay the groundwork for the 16th General Election (GE16), Ahmad Maslan’s comments underscore the deepening divide between the government bloc and the opposition. He concluded by stating that voters will eventually judge parties based on their consistency and integrity in their political promises.
