SpaceX Evaluates Potential Merger with Tesla Ahead of Historic IPO

KUALA LUMPUR – SpaceX is reportedly considering a strategic merger with Tesla Inc., according to reports citing sources close to the matter. This move is seen as part of Elon Musk’s broader effort to consolidate his sprawling tech empire under a more efficient corporate structure.

In addition to Tesla, the aerospace giant is also evaluating a potential tie-up with Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI. These discussions are gaining momentum as SpaceX prepares for what could be the world’s largest Initial Public Offering (IPO), targeted for mid-2026.

Industry analysts suggest that merging these entities would unify Musk’s most valuable assets—including SpaceX’s rockets, the Starlink satellite constellation, Tesla’s electric vehicle and robotics divisions, and xAI’s advanced chatbots—into a single, high-valuation powerhouse.

“The idea of a SpaceX-Tesla merger has gained support from several investors who see significant synergy between the two companies,” a source noted. For instance, Tesla’s expertise in energy storage and humanoid robotics (Optimus) could provide critical technological advantages for SpaceX’s future missions to the Moon and Mars.

Following the reports, Tesla shares saw a positive uptick, reflecting investor optimism about a more unified focus on AI and robotics.

While the merger remains in the evaluation stage, the proposed consolidation is expected to attract massive interest from global infrastructure funds and sovereign wealth funds, particularly as SpaceX reported a record profit of nearly $8 billion last year. As of now, both SpaceX and Tesla have yet to issue an official statement regarding the merger talks.
