Sungai Tembeling Water Levels Drop Amid Dry Spell, Impacting Local Communities

KUALA LUMPUR – The water levels of Sungai Tembeling have seen a significant decline due to the ongoing dry weather, affecting daily activities and local transport in the surrounding areas.

Local residents and boat operators have reported that the receding waters have exposed sandbanks in several parts of the river, making navigation increasingly difficult. This situation is particularly challenging for those who rely on river transport as their primary means of commuting between villages and the National Park (Taman Negara).

“The water level has dropped quite drastically over the past week. We have to be extremely careful now to avoid hitting sandbars or damaging our boat engines,” said a local boatman.

The depletion of the river, which is a major tributary of the Pahang River, is a recurring phenomenon during the dry season. However, the current levels are reportedly lower than usual for this time of year, raising concerns about the potential impact on the local ecosystem and the tourism industry in Kuala Tahan.

Authorities are advising river users to remain cautious, while villagers are bracing for a prolonged dry spell that could further affect their water supply and livelihoods.
