Cattle Trader Charged with Murder of Female Teacher

KUALA LUMPUR – A 32-year-old cattle trader was produced in the Magistrate’s Court today to face a charge of murdering a female teacher in a case that has shocked the local community.

The accused, identified as Mohd Zulhafiz Mohd Zahari, was charged with causing the death of 54-year-old Rohani Yaacob. The incident allegedly took place at a house in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat, late last month.

According to the charge sheet, the act was committed between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The victim, who was a teacher at a local primary school, was found dead with multiple injuries, leading to a swift investigation by the Kelantan police that resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

No plea was recorded from the accused after the charge was read out before Magistrate Ahmad Syafiq Arainy, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The prosecution requested time to complete forensic and chemistry reports before the case is transferred.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for a term of not less than 30 years and not exceeding 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, shall also be punished with whipping of not less than 12 strokes.

The court has fixed a mention date for April to allow for the submission of relevant documents. The accused remains in custody as bail is not granted for murder charges.
