Economic Sanctions No Barrier to Expanding Trade with Malaysia, Says Iranian Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR – Iran is determined to strengthen its economic and trade ties with Malaysia, asserting that ongoing international sanctions will not hinder the growth of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia, Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi, stated that both countries possess significant potential to explore new markets and diversify their trade portfolios. He emphasized that despite external pressures, the resilience of both economies provides a strong foundation for a more robust partnership.

“Sanctions should not be seen as a permanent obstacle. Instead, they encourage us to find innovative ways to collaborate. We see Malaysia as a key strategic partner in Southeast Asia, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, technology, and energy,” the Ambassador said during a recent media briefing.

The trade volume between Iran and Malaysia has shown a positive trend, with an increasing interest from businesses on both sides to engage in joint ventures. Key areas of focus include the exchange of palm oil, petrochemical products, and food security initiatives.

Furthermore, the Ambassador highlighted that the establishment of more efficient banking and payment mechanisms would be crucial in facilitating smoother transactions. He also invited Malaysian investors to explore opportunities within Iran’s industrial and manufacturing sectors, promising a supportive environment for mutual growth.

Both governments are expected to continue high-level dialogues to address logistical challenges and ensure that the economic synergy remains a top priority in their diplomatic agenda.
