KUALA LUMPUR – Continuous heavy rainfall since yesterday has triggered floods in three districts across Sabah, leading to the opening of a temporary relief center (PPS) in Kota Marudu this morning.
According to the Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat, the PPS at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tandek 2 was activated to provide shelter for 213 victims from 63 families.
The flood situation, which began affecting areas as early as 6:00 AM today, has also impacted the districts of Pitas and Paitan. Disaster management committees in these areas remain on high alert as they monitor the situation on the ground.
In Sandakan, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported flash floods at Taman Merpati, Mile 7, early this morning. Firefighters received an emergency call at 4:52 AM and were immediately dispatched to the scene. Although water levels were found to be under control and no evacuations were necessary in Sandakan, residents have been advised to remain vigilant and evacuate early if water levels begin to rise again.
The public in affected areas is urged to follow instructions from local authorities as weather conditions are closely monitored.
