PN to Convene High-Level Meeting on March 14 to Discuss Leadership Transitions

KUALA LUMPUR – The Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council is scheduled to hold a critical meeting on March 14 to address internal leadership structures and the future direction of the opposition bloc.

The announcement was made by PN Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, during a press conference at Parliament on Tuesday. He confirmed that official notices have been dispatched to all council members for the session, which is set to commence at 11:00 AM.

Addressing the Leadership Vacuum The upcoming meeting follows a recent push by Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, for PAS leadership to nominate a new Leader of the Opposition. This move is intended to replace Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, whose status within the coalition has changed significantly.

Muhyiddin emphasized that the appointment of a new representative is a matter of “image and dignity” for Perikatan Nasional. He clarified that since Hamzah is no longer a member of Bersatu or PN following his expulsion from the party, he no longer holds the mandate to lead the opposition in Parliament.

Shifting Dynamics The coalition has recently undergone several high-level transitions. It was previously reported that PAS Vice President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, has taken over the role of PN Chairman, succeeding Muhyiddin Yassin.

The March 14 assembly is expected to formalize these shifts and ensure a unified front as the coalition navigates its role as the primary opposition force in the country.

The outcome of this meeting will be closely watched by political observers, as the selection of the next Leader of the Opposition will define PN’s parliamentary strategy moving forward.
