Malaysia’s Energy Supply Remains Stable Amid Middle East Conflict, Says Economy Minister

KUALA LUMPUR – Despite the growing volatility in global oil markets caused by the Middle East conflict, Malaysia is in a strong position to ensure a stable supply of fuel and energy for the nation.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasir confirmed that there are currently no signs of disruption to the domestic energy supply. He assured the public and industries that the availability of fuel for all sectors, including transportation and manufacturing, remains sufficient.

Strategic Advantage as a Net Exporter

A key factor in Malaysia’s resilience is its status as a net energy exporter. Minister Akmal highlighted that this provides a natural economic cushion, acting as a buffer against sudden global supply shocks or drastic spikes in international crude oil prices.

“Indirectly, Malaysia is in a better position compared to many other nations to absorb these impacts,” Akmal stated in a social media update following a high-level briefing.

Inter-Agency Coordination

To ensure a comprehensive grasp of the situation, the Ministry of Economy has convened a strategic meeting involving representatives from several key institutions, including:

  • PETRONAS
  • Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)
  • Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM)
  • Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  • Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI)
  • Ministry of Finance (MOF)

Vigilance and Economic Stability

While the current outlook is stable, the government remains on high alert. Global crude oil prices are reportedly being monitored on an hourly basis to allow for immediate responses to any geopolitical shifts that might affect the market.

The Minister emphasized that the government’s immediate priorities are to maintain economic stability, preserve investor confidence, and protect the welfare of the people and small businesses from global market fluctuations.
