Tesla Model Y L Debuts in Australia with 681 km Range, Malaysia Launch Possible

March 2026 — The newly introduced Tesla Model Y L has officially entered the Australia market, becoming the first international right-hand-drive market to receive the larger version of the electric SUV.

The vehicle is an extended version of the widely popular Tesla Model Y and features a longer body and wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats, offering a 2+2+2 seating configuration for six passengers.

Longer Range and Strong Performance

Powering the SUV is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing around 462 PS (340 kW) paired with an 82 kWh battery pack. The setup enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about five seconds while reaching a top speed of 201 km/h.

Tesla estimates the vehicle can travel up to 681 km on the WLTP cycle, making it one of the longer-range electric SUVs in its class.

Larger Dimensions and Family-Friendly Layout

Compared with the standard Model Y, the Model Y L is 179 mm longer and features a wheelbase extended to about 3,040 mm, creating additional interior space for passengers and cargo.

The second row uses individual captain’s chairs, while the third row provides seating for two additional passengers. With the seats folded down, the SUV can offer over 2,500 litres of cargo capacity, significantly improving practicality for families and long-distance travel.

Inside, the vehicle retains Tesla’s minimalist design, including a 16-inch infotainment touchscreen, panoramic glass roof, wireless charging pads and multiple onboard cameras that support the company’s advanced driver-assistance systems.

Pricing and Possible Malaysia Arrival

In Australia, the six-seat electric SUV is expected to start from around AUD 74,900 (approximately RM207,000) before additional on-road costs.

Analysts note that if the vehicle is introduced in Malaysia, it could carry a price exceeding RM250,000, given the current pricing of the existing Model Y lineup in the country.

The launch signals Tesla’s continued effort to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with family-focused EVs offering longer driving ranges and greater interior space as global demand for electric SUVs continues to rise.
