Lego and Faith: Asyraf Wajdi’s Son Embarks on a Scholarly Journey in Madinah

KUALA LUMPUR – In a modest dormitory room at the Islamic University of Madinah, a poignant moment of transition took place between a father and his eldest son, marking the beginning of a new chapter in a legacy of Islamic scholarship.

Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, a prominent Malaysian figure, recently shared a touching update regarding his son, Ammar, who is currently pursuing a degree in Shariah with a specialization in Islamic Economics at the prestigious institution.

A Legacy Reclaimed For Asyraf Wajdi, his son’s journey is more than just an academic pursuit; it is the continuation of a lifelong passion for Islamic finance and economics. Having transitioned into a demanding career in politics, Asyraf expressed a heartfelt hope that Ammar would eventually inherit his extensive collection of scholarly texts.

“I hope Ammar will be the one to inherit my books at home one day,” Asyraf remarked, signaling his desire for his firstborn to carry the mantle of knowledge that he once championed.

A Path of Sacrifice Ammar’s road to Madinah required significant personal conviction. He was originally enrolled at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). However, driven by a deep-seated dream and encouraged by family blessings, he chose to withdraw during his first year to accept the offer from the University of Madinah.

According to his father, Ammar has always been a devoted son, prioritizing parental guidance in his life decisions—a trait that led him to the holy city of Madinah.

The Symbolic Role of Lego Interestingly, a childhood hobby has followed Ammar into adulthood. Tucked away in the corner of his dorm room are several neatly assembled Lego sets. While they may seem like simple toys, they hold a profound spiritual meaning for the family.

During his childhood, Asyraf used Lego sets as rewards to motivate Ammar to memorize long chapters of the Quran. Today, these bricks serve as a nostalgic reminder of his progress. Ammar shared that building Lego during his spare time in Madinah acts as an inspiration to help him complete his full Quranic memorization and excel in his studies.

Vision for the Future The journey does not end in the Middle East. Asyraf Wajdi has already envisioned a global educational path for his son, encouraging him to pursue a Master’s degree in the United Kingdom after completing his undergraduate studies in Madinah.
